5.12 Establishing the mains connection
When used in conjunction with the transformers, the energy meter covers the functionality of
the energy flow direction sensor required in relation to the VDE FNN note "connection and
operation of storage systems on low-voltage networks". It ensures that the battery storage
system does not feed any energy into the public grid.
Because the energy meter contains the energy flow direction sensor, its location
must be agreed upon with the network operator.
For additional information, please consult the FNN note "connection and
operation of storage systems on low-voltage networks".
Up to 16 battery storage systems can be connected in parallel. In this case, each battery
storage system must be connected to the low-voltage distribution with a separate connecting
cable. Communication between the battery storage systems is performed via the "Master-
Slave" system. With the master system, the energy meter is connected as previously
described. Communication between the battery storage systems is performed via a network
cable (min. Cat 5). A schematic representation of the connection can be seen in the following
illustration.

The control cables (dark blue) between the battery storage systems are required if an external
emergency stop device or isolated operation is needed. A separate connection document is
available in relation to this. The Ethernet or network cable (red) connects the Master to the
energy meter and the Slave. The Ethernet ports -XF14 and -XF15 are provided for this
purpose.
