MiVoice Office 250 Installation and Administration Guide

Digital Capability

The MiVoice Office 250 HX Controller platform has Integrated support for up to 48 digital desktop
devices (without the need for a secondary digital expansion chassis). If more than 48 digital devices
are required, up to four optional Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) units can be attached to the system.
Although the original CS Controller platform does not have native digital support, it too can be
equipped with up to four optional DEIs.

Digital Desktop Module

Each Digital Desktop Module (DDM-16) provides 16 circuits for connecting a variety of digital
telephones. There can be up to three DDM-16s installed in any of the four HX Controller expansion
bays. Each DDM-16 includes:
A single 48-pin connector and a special DDM cable for connection to a station block at the Main
Distribution Frame
Status LEDs (online, busy, and remove)
Module release lever for safely removing the module from the bay
DSP resources (4 DTMF receivers, 5 tone generators, and 16 speakerphones for devices con-
nected to the module)
Note that the new DDM-16s are not subject to any of the voice channel trade-offs that the original
DEM-16s are subject to when used in two-DEI or four-DEI mode.

Digital Endpoint Module

Each Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16) provides 16 circuits for connecting a variety of digital
telephones (including 8500, 8520, 8528, 8560, 8568, Executive, Professional, Standard, Associate,
and Basic) or Single-Line Adapters (SLAs) to the system.
Each DEM-16 is also equipped with a single Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide the following
module and/or system resources:
Speakerphone resources for all digital telephones connected to the module.
Tone generating circuit for providing system tones (busy, reorder, Do-Not-Disturb, etc.) to the
phones connected to the module, if necessary. It is available in case there are no voice channels
available in the system to issue tones.
Switching matrix to allow access to any available time slot on the module's PCM highway (bus).
This is provided since the module may need up to 32 simultaneous voice channel connections.

Single-Line Adapter

A Single-Line Adapter (SLA), which can be installed on an available DDM-16 or DEM-16 circuit, is
used for connecting two AC-ringing, single line DTMF sets, playback devices, and/or off-premises
extensions.
