Installing a PKM 12 or PKM 48

The 12-button and 48-button Programmable Key Module (PKM) are digital devices providing 12,
48, or 96 additional personal buttons for the 5224/5324 IP phones and the newer 8528/8568 digital
telephones. And, as of the v5.0 software release, the 5330 and 5340 IP phones now also support
the 12-button and 48-button PKMs.
Each personal button may be programmed as a feature button, a Direct Station Select (DSS) button,
a Speed Dial button, or for other uses, and each has a Line Status Indicator that behaves the same
as the indicators on the attached phone. Up to two PKM 48s may be attached to the phone for a
total of 96 additional buttons.
PKM 12 and PKM 48 are not compatible. You cannot connect both a PKM 12 and a PKM 48
NOTE
at the same time.
PKM Interface Module (IM)
The PKM IM provides connectivity between the phone and the PKM 12 or PKM 48. The PKM IM is
installed separately at the base of the phone. You can connect a phone to up to two PKMs using
the PKM IM. The universal 24 VDC power adapter powers the PKM IM and the PKM 12 or PKM 48.
The DC adapter is always required to power the PKM IM when used on an 8528/8568 phone.
You need the following items to install a PKM:
One 5224/5324/5330/5340/8528/8568 phone
One PKM 12 or PKM 48 (or two PKM 48s)
One modular cable (or two modular cables for two PKM 48s)
One PKM IM v2 (v1 is not compatible)
One Universal 24 VDC power adapter
One power cord
Phillips screwdriver
See
Table 66, "DSS/BLF Units, PKMs, Data Port Modules, and Transformers," on
part numbers that are associated with PKMs.
To install the PKM IM:
