9. DIGITAL INTERFACE CARD

9.01
The Digital Interface card is installed in slot 18 of an analog
peripheral shelf. It interfaces the analog shelf to the Main Con-
trol card. The card is illustrated in Figure 9-l.
9.02
Facilities for the Digital Interface card include:
l
analog/digital
log junctors and the Master Control card via the PCM cable.
enables dial pulse detection by the Peripheral Control card. Dial
pulses cannot be encoded in PCM.
provides a message channel between the Main Control card and
the Peripheral Control card via the PCM cable.
9.03
The Digital Interface card is installed in slot 18 of an analog
peripheral shelf. It must not be inserted or removed from the
system with the power on. The card front panel contains three 21-pin
male DIN connectors and two LEDs. A PCM cable from the Main
Control is plugged into J2.
9.04
A 2-shelf peripheral cabinet may have a Digital Interface card
installed in both the top and bottom shelves. In this case, the
cable from the Main Control card plugs into J2 of the lower DIG. An
intershelf jumper cable connects Jl of the lower DIC to J3 of the upper
shelf DIC. The upper shelf card performs only the analog/digital inter-
face and dial pulse detection functions. When connected this way, the
cards automatically identify their location to the main processor.
