Trunks and Phones

The MiVoice Office 250 supports the following trunks, spans, gateways, and phones:
• Central Office (CO) [Local Exchange] Trunks: Up to 12 (CS Controller) or 16 (HX Controller)
loop start [local exchange] trunks can be installed in increments of four trunks per LSM-4 module.
In addition, two (CS) or four (HX) loop start trunks can be installed in the RJ-14 port built in on
the Base Server.
• Spans: Up to six (CS Controller) or eight (HX Controller) T1, T1/PRI, or E1/PRI spans can be
installe:.
• T1: In Database (DB) Programming each of the 24 channels of a channelized T1 span can
be enabled as any of the following types of channels or circuits:
• Loop Start
• Ground Start
• DID (Direct Inward Dial)/[in Europe, DDI (Direct Dial Inward)]
• E&M (Ear and Mouth/2-way)
• OPX (Off Premises Extension)
• T1/PRI: A T1/PRI span provides 23 information-bearing (B) channels and one data (D)
channel for signaling and control.
• E1/PRI: An E1/PRI span provides 30 B channels and one D channel.
IP Devices: The MiVoice Office 250 supports IP phones, digital telephones, and IP Single-Line

Adapter (IP-SLA) devices. The Internet Protocol Resource Application (IPRA) supplies IP func-
tionality for the system and communicates to the phones and gateways across 100Base-T
Ethernet. The IPRA does not support legacy IP SoftPhones. See page 376 for specific phone
models.
• 8602 Softphone Application: 8602 application software is distributed separately from the sys-
tem software. Performance and interoperability is equivalent to hard IP phones. For details, refer
to the Model 8602 User Guide, part number 835.3019.
• IP Gateway Trunks: The MiVoice Office 250 supports Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP)
and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) gateway trunks.
• Programmable Key Module (PKM): Previously referred to as Direct Station Select
(DSS)/Busy Lamp Field (BLF). The MiVoice Office 250 supports a variety of PKMs, including
the PKM 12, PKM 48, PKM 50, and PKM 60. For details, see "Direct Station Select/Busy Lamp

• PKM 16: The MiVoice Office 250 supports a Mitel Programmable Key Module (PKM) 16 (previ-
ously called the Model 8416 Mini-DSS) that provides one-button access to 16 extension numbers
and/or feature buttons/resources. For details, see "8416 Mini-Direct Station Select (Mini-DSS)
Unit" on page
• Wireless Phones: 8664, 8665, and 8668 are wireless IP phones. For details, refer to the NetLink
SVP Server and Model 8664/8665/8668 Installation Manual, part number 935.4521, and/or to
