With a system installed in the United States, an SLA can also be used for connecting two Direct
Inward Dialing (DID) trunks—or, one single line phone and one DID trunk. For more information on
using DID trunks, refer to the MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide. SLAs are
shipped with both ports set for single line device operation. Before connecting a DID trunk, be sure
to open the unit and set the corresponding port for DID operation. Also, if necessary, adjust the
hybrid balance setting to better accommodate longer loop lengths. For installation instructions, see
the
Installation
AC-ringing off-premises extensions can be connected directly to the SLA circuit. External
high-voltage ringing adapter (HVRA) units, power supplies, and ring generators are not needed.
IMPORTANT
Each SLA, whether used for single line sets or DID trunks or both, is powered by its own AC
transformer. Also, SLAs have two self-correcting thermistors. If a short circuit causes a thermistor
to open, it will automatically close when the short is removed.
NOTICE
Possible system degradation. For optimal system performance, do not use SLA circuits for Voice Mail
and Automated Attendant functions. Rather, the Voice Processing PC and applications software should
be used for these purposes.

Data Port Modules

The Personal Computer Data Port Module (PCDPM) and Modem Data Port Module (MDPM) are
connected to appropriate digital telephones to provide hard-wire paths necessary to connect
compatible Programmable Key Modules (PKMs) or Digital Station Select (DSS)/Busy Lamp Field
(BLF) units. Contrary to their names, however, neither device supports serial data.

Personal Computer Data Port Module

The PCDPM can be installed on Standard, Associate, Executive, and Professional Display phones
or on 8520 or 8560 phones to gain Off-Hook Voice Announce (OVHA) receive capability or to install
an optional Modem Data Port Module (MDPM).
The PCDPM supports audio only when used in conjunction with the 5000 DEI product. In this
NOTE
version of software, the serial port is not functional on the PCDPM, and it does not transmit
data, even though the name of the device suggests that it does.

Modem Data Port Module

The optional Modem Data Port Module (MDPM) can be installed on Standard Display, Executive
Display, 8520, or 8560 phones for attaching a modem-equipped data device or a single line phone.
The MDPM requires a PCDPM.
The Mitel Programmable Key Module (PKM) 16 (previously called the Model 8416 Mini-DSS)
connects to Mitel 8520, 8560, or 8660 phones without PCDPM and MDPM devices. The only
programming required for the PKM 16 (Mini-DSS) is a keymap, which is explained in detail in the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide.
chapter.
SLAs do not support visual Message Waiting applications. If single line sets with
Message Waiting lamps are installed on SLAs, the lamps will not function. However,
single line sets can be configured in DB Programming to receive audible Message
Waiting tones.
