6.1.Generalinformationoncharging
6.1.1.Introduction
The"charging"procedureforanelectricvehiclecorrespondsto"refueling"aconventionallydriven
vehicle.Accordingly,inthischapter"charging"means:
•
Chargingthehigh-voltagebatteryinthevehicle
•
whileatstandstill(notthroughbrakeenergyregeneration),
•
bysupplyofelectricalenergy,
•
whichisprovidedbyanACvoltagenetworkoutsidethevehicle
•
andisfedtothevehicleviaachargingcable.
Asachargingcableisused,onealsoreferstoconductive(grid-bound)charging.Theinductive
chargingisnotpossibleattheI01.Itisstillundergoingresearchanddevelopment.
Componentsinsideandoutsidethevehiclearerequiredforcharging.Inthevehicleachargingsocket
andpowerelectronicsarerequiredforthevoltageconversion.Outsidethevehicleadevicewhich
performstheprotectionandcontrolfunctionsisneeded,inadditiontotheACvoltagenetworkanda
chargingcable.Thisdeviceiscalledan"ElectricVehicleSupplyEquipment(EVSE)"inthestandards
andindevelopment.Thefollowinggraphicshowsthecomponentsforthechargingofthehigh-voltage
batteryinsideandoutsidetheelectricvehicleandcomparesthemtothecomponentsneededfor
refuelinginaconventionalvehicle.
