ThischargingcablefortheI01isalwaysdesignedforsingle-phasesupply,inlinewiththecharging
socketatthevehicle(phase L1andneutralconductor N)andalwaysincludestheprotectiveearth (PE),
aswellasthepilotline.Thegroundisgroundedviatheprotectiveearth.Usingthepilotlinethe
correctconnectiontotheACvoltagenetworkanditsmaximumavailablechargingcurrentlevelcan
beidentifiedortransmitted.Intheconnectoranohmicresistorisalsoinstalledbetweentheproximity
connectionandtheprotectiveearth.Theresistancevaluespecifieswhichmaximumcurrentlevel
isallowedforthechargingcableused(dependentonthelinecross-section).Theassignmentof
resistance–currentlevelisspecifiedinthestandardIEC 61851.Usingtheresistanceintheproximity
linetheLIMinthevehiclecanidentifywhetherthechargingcableisproperlyconnectedandwhich
currentlevelisallowedforthischargingcable.Theconveniencechargingelectronicsappliesa
measuredvoltageandcalculateswhichvaluetheresistanceintheproximitylinehas.
TheconnectionwiththeACvoltagenetworkisdoneviaafixedchargingstation,whichincludesthe
ElectricVehicleSupplyEquipment.Theappropriatechargingcableforthispurposeissolelythe
electricalconnectionbetweenchargingstationandchargingsocketatthevehicle.
ThechargingcableforACChargingat7.4 kW(standardequipmentinUS)andACcharging
at3.7 kW(StandardequipmentinEurope)havethesameconnectorfortheconnectionatthe
vehicle.Theconnectorsareonlydistinguishedbytheirdifferingresistancesintheproximity
line,appropriatetothecurrentcarryingcapacityofthechargingcable.Thefollowinggraphic
