Theelectriccoolantpumphasapowerof80 W(Manufacturer:Bosch).Thecoolantpumpisactivated
bytheEDMEcontrolunit.Forthispurpose,thecoolantpumpandtheEDMEcontrolunitare
connectedviaadirectline.Theelectriccoolantpumpcanbeactivatedatvaryingpowerbypulse-
widthmodulatedsignals.Thevoltagesupplyofthecoolantpumpiseffectedviaterminal30B.The
installationlocationofthecoolantpumpisattherearright.
Theexpansiontankislocatedinthespacebelowtheenginecompartmentlidontheleft.Thereis
noelectricallevelsensorinstalledintheexpansiontank.Butthereisthefollowingspecialfeature
tobenotedforService:Alossofcoolant,forexampleduetoaleak,inthecoolingsystemisnot
identifieddirectlyduetothelackofanelectricallevelsensor.Instead,intheeventofcoolantloss
thetemperatureofthecooledcomponents(electricalmachine,electricalmachineelectronics,
conveniencechargingelectronics,rangeextenderandtherangeextenderelectricalmachine
electronics)risesabovethenormaloperatingrange.Inthiscasethepoweroftheelectricmotoris
reducedandacorrespondingCheckControlmessageisissued.TheServiceemployeemustcheck
thefollowingfaultcausesduringtroubleshooting:

Lossofcoolant,e.g.byaleak
•
Coolant-airheatexchangerblocked
•
Electricfandoesnotworkorisrestricted
•
Coolantpumpdoesnotwork
•
Coolantlinesorconnectionsdamaged
•
Componentstobecooledfaulty(electricalmachine,electricalmachineelectronics,
conveniencechargingelectronics,rangeextenderelectricalmachine,rangeextenderelectrical
machineelectronics).
Ifexcesstemperatureisdisplayedinthecoolingsystemoftheelectricmotor,thenthismayhave
severalcauses,includingalsothelossofcoolant.Therefore,duringtroubleshootingallcomponentsof
thecoolingsystemmustbecheckedsystematically.
ThefamiliarmixtureofwaterandantifreezeandcorrosioninhibitorsinBMWvehiclesisusedasa
coolant.
Whenfillingthecoolingcircuitoftheelectricmotorusethespecialtoolforvacuumfillingaccordingto
therepairinstructions.
Performableedingafterfillingthecoolingcircuit,aswellasafterreplacingcomponentsinthecooling
circuit.
ForthebleedingthecoolingcircuitfortheelectricmotorintheI01followthesameprocedureas
forconventionalvehicles.ThereisaServicefunctioninthediagnosissystemfortheactivationof
ableedingprocedure.Thisconsistsofappropriateactivationoftheelectriccoolantpump(varying
enginespeed,definedduration).Thisbleedingprocedurecanalsobeactivatedwithoutthediagnosis
system.Thefollowingproceduralstepsmustbecarriedouthere:
