TheselectorlevelpositionNisthusnotachievedbyopeningaclutchinthetransmission.Instead,the
electricalmachineisactivatedsothatitneithergeneratesanenginenoralternatortorque.Onecan
thereforeimagineasifthecoilsofthestatorwereopenandnovoltageisappliedfromoutside.There
isinfactvoltage,generatedbytheelectricalmachineelectronics–however,thisisadjustedinthe
amplitude,frequencyandphasesothattherotorcanrotatewithoutaload(torque0 Nm).
ThedifferencebetweenthedrivepositionsNandPissolelyintheconditionoftheparkinglock
module.InNitisdisengaged,inPitisengaged.
Powermanagementfunction
Forhistoricalreasonsandduetoanindirectrelationtothedrivefunctions,otherfunctionsare
integratedinthedrivecontrolunits,especiallyintheEDMEcontrolunit.
Formanyyearstheelectricalpowermanagementofconventionalvehicleshasbeenintegratedas
afunctionintheenginecontrol.Theevaluationofthe12 VbatterystateofchargeviatheIBSand
theconsumershutdownareexamplesforthispowermanagementfunction.Thistraditionisalso
continuedintheI01:TheEDMEcontrolunitperformsthepowermanagementfunctionforthelow-
voltagevehicleelectricalsystem.Thepowermanagementinthelow-voltagevehicleelectricalsystem
includesthefollowingsubfunctions:

Determinationofthecurrentenergyrequirementoftheelectricalconsumers(signalsinthe
formofbussignals,e.g.switch-onstatusofexteriorlightsbytheBodyDomainController
BDC)
•
Determinationofstateofhealth,stateofchargeandchargecurrent/dischargecurrentofthe
12 Vbattery(signalsfromtheIBS)
•
ControlingthepoweroftheDC/DCconverter
•
Monitoringofthestandbycurrent
•
Switch-offofterminalsorconsumersinordertoprotectthe12 Vbatteryagainstheavy
discharge.
Thetaskoftheconventional12 ValternatorisassumedintheI01bytheDC/DCconverterinthe
electricalmachineelectronics.Dependingonthepowerrequired,thepowermanagementinthe
EDMErequestscorrespondingpowerfromtheelectricalmachineelectronicsviabussignals.
3.3.3.ElectricalDigitalMotorElectronics(EDME)
Thedesignation"ElectricalDigitalMotorElectronics(EDME)"reflectstheelectricmotorintheI01
(incomparisontotheconventionaldrivewithacombustionengine).ThemanufactureroftheEDME
controlunitis"DelphiElectronicsGroup".Themanufacturer'sinternaldesignationis"DCM 3.8"–this
DelphienginecontrolunitisalreadyusedbyothervehiclemanufacturersandwasadaptedfortheI01
intermsoftheelectricalinterfaces.
