AnaxletransmissionoilknownfromconventionallydrivenBMWvehiclesisusedastransmission
oil(manufacturerdesignation,e.g.CastrolBOT-448).Thetransmissionhousingisalsousedasan
oilsumpandholdsthefullcapacityof0.5 ltransmissionoil.Thespurgearunitsandthedifferential
runinthetransmissionoilandensuretheentiretransmissionislubricated(oilsumplubrication).The
transmissionoilisdesignedfortheoperatinglifeoftheI01meaningthereisnoneedforareplacement
ofthetransmissionoil.Nevertheless,thereisanoildrainplug,aswellasanoilfillerplug,withwhich
theoillevelcanalsobechecked.Theseareshowninagraphicinthechapter"Mechanicalinterfaces".
Thetransmissionisnotintegratedinthecoolingsystemoftheelectricmotorandthereforehasno
connectionsforcoolantlines.Theheatinthetransmissionwhicharisesduringoperationislow.
Sufficientheatisdischargedviatheairflowingbyatthetransmissionhousingandtheconnection
fortheelectricalmachine.Thetemperatureinthetransmissionremainsinarangeuptoamaximum
120 °C,forwhichthecomponentsandthetransmissionoilaredesigned.Thetransmissioncan,
however,alsoabsorbsignificantlylowertemperatures:Whendrivingoffafteralongimmobilization
periodthecomponentshavetheambienttemperature.Asaresultofthelargetemperaturerange
excesspressureoravacuumwouldoccurinacompletelytighthousing.Toavoidthisthereisa
bleedingholeaboveatthetransmissionhousing.Ithasacaptoprotectagainstdirtcontamination.

Mountingandtorquesupport
Themountingandsupportofthedrivetorqueisnotonlyrelatedtothetransmission,butalsothe
entiredriveunitcomprisingtheelectricalmachine,transmissionandelectricalmachineelectronics.
Theweightforceanddrivetorquearetransmittedtotherearaxlemoduleviaenginesupportarmand
anti-rollbarlinkandfromtheretothebody.
