We recommend that bipolar encoders are used.
If you are using unipolar encoders, open the 15-pin SUB-D connector and connect the unused
inverse signals (AN pin 14, BN pin 12 and RN pin 11) to ground (pin 7).

EP terminals/temperature sensor connection

The EP terminal is the input terminal for SINAMICS Safety Integrated Basic Functions: STO
(Safe Torque Off), SS1 (Safe Stop 1) and SBC (Safe Brake Control). For SBC, you also require
a Safe Brake Relay. The basic functions are selected when the EP terminal is activated at the
same time as one of the digital inputs of terminal X121 (X121.1 to X121.4).
Using the temperature sensor connection, you can connect the temperature sensing via KTY
(special temperature sensor) or PTC (positive temperature coefficient). The temperature
sensing provides thermal motor protection by detecting critical motor conditions.
