fill the coupling opening with 636K8 Plastaband (Fig. 3). Clamp the socket and knee joint into
the alignment apparatus.
Attention!
Remove any soft, flexible or porous materials from underneath the supporting surface of
the lamination anchor. Mix the putty exclusively from 617H21 Orthocryl Sealing Resin
and 639A1 Talcum Powder. Glue on the lamination anchor.
Secure with 627B2 Adhesive Tape for trial fitting. Test the stop function. If necessary, form the
required contact surface with putty. If need be, glue a stop made of Pedilin onto the outer laminate.
4.3.1.3 Finalizing the socket
Once the trial fitting has been completed, fasten the lamination anchor to the socket with truss
head screws (17) and two-hole nuts (18). Then laminate. Then proceed with reinforcement as
follows: Pull one layer of 623T3 Perlon Stockinette over the entire socket and tie circularly on
the top. Apply two layers of 616G12 Carbon Fiber Cloth over the arms of the 4G70 Adapter.
Then pull the remaining half of the 623T3 Perlon Stockinette back over the socket. The carbon
fiber layers are thus sandwiched between the stockinette layers. Again reinforce the socket in
increments with 616G13 Fiberglass Stockinette (see Section 4.3.1.1) Apply two layers of 623T3
Perlon Stockinette. Proceed with lamination as with the first casting.
Attention!
Deviating from the processing instructions or the recommended materials for the lami-
nation of the lamination anchor can result in a loosening or breaking of the adapter.
Attention!
Upon completion of assembly, tighten the set screws (12-506G3=M8×12-V, 12a-
506G3=M8×10) with a torque wrench (710D1) to the required assembly torque. Trial
fitting: Tighten the set screws to 10 Nm. Completion: Secure the 506G3 Set Screws
with 636K13 Loctite, pre-tighten to 10 Nm and then tighten to 15 Nm.
4.4 Adjustment of the bearing
The axis pins of the linkage bars, encased in bushings, are connected to the upper and lower joint
section. The type of bearing and screw connection allows to increase or decrease the friction
and to remove play resulting from ordinary wear and tear. For this, attach lock nut (14) using
enclosed 709S18 Socket Wrench (16). Then tighten socket head cap screw (11) with 5-mm Allen
wrench (Fig. 4). It is of utmost importance that an adjustment to remove play take place after a
breaking-in period of 2 to 4 weeks. At every maintenance check, the adjustment must be verified
and the 4Z43=H Stops replaced.
To lubricate the axle bushings (8) and slotted bushings (9) use 633G6 Ottobock Special Lubricant.
4.5 Adjusting the lock (Fig. 5)
The Modular Knee Joint 3R23 or 3R32 is delivered checked and adjusted for assembly. The lock
easily and audibly engages automatically when the joint is in extension. It can be readjusted by
turning the countersunk screw with hexagon socket (24) above the brass wedge (23). Turning
the screw to the right = impedes release, reduces play, engages less easily. Turning the screw
to the left = facilitates release, increases play, engages more easily.
Following any adjustment, ensure that the lock engages and that the joint is reliably locked.
Secure the adjustment screw (24) with 636K13 Loctite. At every maintenance check, the lock
should be verified and the 4Z43=H Stops (15) replaced. If the locks fail to engage securely,
the stops must be reworked. Do not alter the plastic parts of the lock.
