4 Working instructions for electronic components

4.1 Electronic control unit

The electronic control unit measures the position of the orthosis during the gait cycle and unlocks
the joint prior to toe-off. Prior to heel strike at the end of the swing-through phase, the orthosis
knee joint is locked in the extended position so the patient can step down safely.
In order to determine the optimum joint activation point for the patient, the electronics are equip-
ped with an auto-calibration feature. This feature must be activated by the
initial patient fitting. Test mode, which provides acoustic feedback for joint activity while walking,
is useful for the

Two switching options are available to the patient. The patient activates / deactivates the sitting
and locking function with two clearly separated push-buttons.
