CAUTION
Risk of injury as a result of excessive strain. The Ottobock prosthetic components described
in these instructions for use have been developed for activities of daily living and must not be
used for unusual activities such as extreme sports (free climbing, paragliding, etc.).
Careful handling of the prosthesis and its components not only increases their service life but,
above all, ensures the patient's safety!
Should prosthetic components be subjected to unusual stresses (such as a fall), immediately
contact your prosthetist and have the components inspected for any damage. If necessary, the
responsible prosthetist will pass the prosthesis on to the Ottobock Service Centre.
NOTICE
Risk of corrosion. Prosthetic components must not be exposed to corrosive elements such as
fresh water, salt water, and acids.
Using this medical product in such environmental conditions will render all claims against Otto
Bock HealthCare null and void.
NOTICE
Damage caused by inappropriate environmental conditions. Prosthetic components must
not be subjected to intense smoke, dust, vibrations, shocks, or high temperatures. Do not allow
debris or liquids to get into the prosthetic components. Failure to follow these instructions can
lead to malfunctioning and damage to the prosthesis.
NOTICE
Damage caused by improper cleaning agents. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents,
since they could cause damage to bearings, seals and plastic parts.
2.4  Function (Fig. 1 – 4)
The free swing behavior of the Ottobock MovoShoulder Swing promotes a natural gait pattern.
It also reduces the stress on the skin in the contact area of the prosthetic socket as well as the
spine and back muscles.
2.4.1 Locked Position
To lock the shoulder joint, move the prosthesis to approximately 15° of abduction using the sound
hand (see Fig. 1). Move the whole prosthesis forward by about 30° and allow it to lock.
The prosthesis can also be positioned without the assistance of the sound hand by proceeding
as follows: The patient bows his/her torso laterally (Fig. 2) so as to tilt the prosthesis away from
his body and then leans ahead to swing the prosthesis forward (Fig. 3). Then the patient moves
back into an upright position while the prosthesis remains locked in the forward position (Fig. 4).
In this position, the patient can perform simple gripping functions in combination with myo-electric
components (e.g. System Electric Hand, System Electric Greifer).
The O-rings serve to dampen the tilt behaviour during abduction and prevent the prosthesis from
unintentionally tilting away from the body. It is permissible to use a single O-ring resulting in re-
duced abduction dampening.
