5.4 Finishing the Prosthesis
5.4.1 Finishing the prosthetic socket
After the trial fitting of the prosthesis and the alignment of the prosthetic foot, the prosthetic sock­
et is finished. Before finishing, the position of the prosthetic foot is marked and the foot is
removed.
Marking the Foot Position
Required tools and materials:
>
Pen, scriber, Allen key (2.5 mm and 3 mm), sanding tool, 638K8 Plastaband
1) Mark the position of the lamination anchor using a scriber next to the slots in the concave
plate.
2) Mark the position of the setting aid with a pen.
3) Mark the sliding block position on the lamination anchor with a pen.
4) Loosen the fine-threaded screw and remove the foot from the socket.
5) Trace the markings clearly on the surfaces of the lamination anchor.
6) Undo the countersunk head screw on the setting aid using an Allen key and remove the set­
ting aid.
7) Sand down the excess resin-talcum mixture on the socket as far as the anchor arms.
8) Seal the openings on the sliding block flush with the surface of the lamination anchor using
Plastaband.
9) Place the lamination dummy on the lamination anchor and screw it on with the screws
provided.
10) Seal the screw holes on the lamination anchor with Plastaband.
Finishing the Prosthetic Socket
Required tools and materials:
>
Soaked 99B81 PVA Bag, 623T9 Nylglas Stockinette, 616G12 Carbon Fibre Cloth, 99B25
Tube Sock, 616G15 Carbon Fibre Woven Hose, 616G13 Fibreglass Woven Hose, 617H55
C-Orthocryl
1) Place two layers of carbon fibre cloth over the anchor arms (see fig. 12).
2) Pull over a tube sock.
3) Pull a carbon fibre woven hose over the distal third and tie it off in the groove of the lamina­
tion anchor (see fig. 13).
4) Pull the carbon fibre woven hose over the distal quarter.
5) Cut a Nylglas stockinette to twice the length of the socket.
6) Pull the Nylglas stockinette once over the socket and tie it off in the groove of the lamination
anchor.
7) Place a layer of carbon fibre cloth over the anchor arms.
8) If a patient with a mobility grade of 3 weighs over 100 kg (220 lbs), place additional carbon
fibre cloth over the anchor arms.
9) Fold over the Nylglas stockinette.
10) Perform the lamination process with C-Orthocryl.
11) Optional: Leave the casting resin to harden and perform a cast with socket décor fabric.
12) NOTICE! Do not sand the lamination anchor sliding surface or groove.
After the lamination resin has cured and cooled, remove the lamination dummy.
5.4.2 Installing the prosthetic foot
Required materials and tools:
>
Allen key (2.5 mm), 710D4 Torque Wrench
1) Install the setting aid on the lamination anchor.
