Configuring the Member Switch

General Steps for
the Member
Switch
118
Here are the procedures for configuring the member switch.
"General Steps for the Member Switch" on page 118
"Configuring the Member Switch - Part I" on page 119
"Configuring the Member Switch - Part II" on page 121
"Verifying the Member Switch" on page 123
"What to Do Next" on page 124
Note
The procedures require resetting the switch twice. Some network
traffic will be lost if the device is already connected to an active
network.
Perform the procedures in the order presented here.
The procedure for configuring the member switch for stacking is divided
into two parts. The general steps to Part I are listed here:
1. Start a local management session on the member switch.
2. Assign the ID number 2 to the member switch with the SWITCH
RENUMBER command in the Global Configuration mode.
Note
Changing a member switch's ID does not delete the default ID 1
from its configuration. The member switch retains it as the
provisioned master switch.
3. Save your changes with the WRITE command in the Privilege Exec
mode.
4. Restart the switch with the REBOOT command.
The general steps in Part II are listed here:
1. Start a new local management session.
2. Assign the member switch the priority number 2 with the STACK
PRIORITY command in the Global Configuration mode.
3. Remove stacking from the default trunk ports 15/S1 and 16/S2 on the
member switch with the NO STACKPORT command.
