Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before
operating.
Failure to do so can result in death or
electrical shock.
Typically, 208-240VAC is supplied from the
contactor when a washer cycle is running. The
contactor is connected to terminals "L1" & "L2"
of an inverter. Erratic voltages, low voltage
or high voltage will cause inverter fault codes
and / or possible damage to the inverter drive
and associated components.
Remove power from washer and wait 10
minutes before attempting any further steps.
Before working on an inverter, follow the
procedure for testing inverters
See page 7-7). This must be done anytime an
inverter or brake resistor is being worked on.
nOTe: Do not connect AC Line voltage to
"U", "V" or "W" terminals, because inverter
drive damage will immediately occur.
nOTe: Use only Maytag genuine
replacement parts, especially in the motor
and inverter circuits. Unsatisfactory or unsafe
operation -- or damage -- may occur to the
washer otherwise.
nOTe: Do not allow water or laundry
chemicals to leak onto or enter the inverter,
because damage to the inverter will result.
Check for leaks, on a regular basis, and
correct any leaks or spills immediately.
In order for the inverter to work properly in
the washer it must be programmed properly.
That programming -- often referred to as
parameter settings -- is done via the software
on the washer control board when in the
"Configuration" menu.
No special device, such as a parameter unit,
is ever needed to set these parameters,
troubleshoot the inverter, or test the inverter.
All those functions are handled by the control
board in the washer.
Each washer control board has software,
related to the inverter's parameter settings, in
non-volatile memory on the board. Make sure
the washer is properly set up so the software
settings match the inverter type and washer
type. This should be done during initialization
of the washer, when troubleshooting an
inverter-drive-related problem, or when
replacing an inverter.
The parameters can be set (or reset) at any
time the washer is powered and not presently
running a cycle, by following the information
in the MCG programming manual concerning
the "Configuration" menu. Make sure the
model type of the washer match the settings
and choose "Yes" when asked "Load Inverter
Parameters?".
