Problem

Probable Cause
The cards have
fingerprints or debris on
them.
The transport rollers are
dirty.
The printhead is dirty.
Unprinted cards have
scratches.
The transport rollers are

The supplies are
wrinkled.
The printer firmware is
not current.
Solution
Make sure that cards are clean. Handle

cards carefully. Refer to "Card Quality
Guidelines" in the printer's Installation
and Administrator's Guide.
Use cards that meet the requirements for

the printer. Refer to "Cards" in the
printer's Installation and Administrator's
Guide.
Run a cleaning card and replace the cleaning
sleeve. Refer to "Clean the Printer"
page 44 and "Replace the Cleaning Sleeve"
page 35.
Clean the printhead. Refer to
Printhead" on page 49.
Handle cards carefully. Refer to "Card Quality
Guidelines" in the printer's Installation and
Administrator's Guide.
Run a cleaning card. Refer to
Printer" on page 44.
Check the ink ribbon and retransfer film. If

either is wrinkled, advance the supply in
the cartridge to an unwrinkled section.
Replace the supplies, if necessary.

Update the printer to the current firmware
version. Firmware updates often contain fixes
for common printing issues.
