5.5 MECHANICAL OPERATION
5.5.8 COOLING FINGER ASSEMBLY OPERATION - Figure 5-12
The Cooling Fingers (1) are used to contact the warm rivet after it has been formed by
the Knife (1, Figure 5-12).
This action absorbs the residual heat, improves rivet
cosmetics, and ensures a securely bound document.
The Cooling Fingers (1) and Springs (2) are mounted in the Cooling Finger Channel (3),
using Speed Nuts (7). The Channel (3) is mounted to the Cooling Finger Bracket (4)
which is controlled by the Camshaft (4, Figure 5-9).
When the Knife (1, Figure 5-12) retracts, the Rollers (5) on the Cooling Finger Bracket
(4) follow the Cooling Cams (6) to position the Cooling Fingers (1) for operation.
