5.5 MECHANICAL OPERATION
5.5.5 CAMSHAFT/BIND MOTOR ASSEMBLY OPERATION - Figure 5-9
Timing of the bind operation is controlled by the Camshaft (4). There are seven (7) cams
utilized in the bind operation: two Pressure Cams (1) for movement of the Pivot Springs,
two Cutter Cams (2) for movement of the Cutter Arm Assemblies, one Extruder Cam (3)
for movement of the Extruder Shaft and Knife Assembly, and two Cooling Cams (5) for
movement of the Cooling Finger Assembly.
The Camshaft (4) is rotated by the Bind Motor (9) via a Timing Belt (6) attached
between the Camshaft Pulley (7), and the Bind Motor Pulley (8).
The rotation of the Pressure Cams (1) compress the document.
The rotation of the Cutter Cams (2) bring the knife forward to cut the pins.
The rotation of the Extruder Cam (3) raises the Knife Assembly to flatten the rivets.
The rotation of the Cooling Cams (5) raises the Cooling Fingers to absorb the residual
heat and compress the rivets.
