5.5.6 PRESSURE BAR COMPRESSION OPERATION - Figure 5-10
The Pressure Bar Assembly, Left and Right Pivo t Spring Assemblies, and Timing Shaft
Assembly work together to apply pressure to the document, compressing it during the
binding operation.
The Pressure Bar Racks (2) engage the Pinion Gears (3) on the Timing Shaft (4).
Initially the Timing Shaft (4) is disengaged, allowing the Pressure Bar (1) to be raised
and lowered. When the Pressure Bar (1) is lowered on to the document, the Bind Start
Switch (S-11) (in rear of Pressure Bar) is actuated, starting the Bind Motor (9, Figure 5-
7). As the Camshaft (1, Figure 5-9) rotates, The Right and Left Pivot Spring Assemblies
(5 & 6) are deflected by the rotating Pressure Cams (1, Figure 5-9).
The Pawl (7), mounted on the Left Pivot Spring Assembly (6), engages the Ratchet (8)
attached to the end of the Timing Sha ft (4). As the Left Pivot Spring Assembly (6) is
brought down by the Pressure Cam (1, Figure 5-9) action, the Pawl (7) engages and locks
the Ratchet (8) and Timing Shaft (4), causing the Pressure Bar (1) to compress the
document.
