6.6.2 Selection of the motor cable

The correct selection and installation of the motor cable is very important for high motor
power:

Figure 26:
Cross-section motor cable
Lower load of the motor bearings through bearing currents.
Better EMC characteristics.
Lower symmetrical operating capacities.
Less losses through equalizing currents.
Due to the high currents, shielded motor cables can be connected in parallel be-
tween the drive converter and the motor.
All three phases must passing through each line.
The required cross-section is described in chapter „Technical Data".
All motor cables should have the same length in order to keep an asymmetry as
small as possible.
The shield must always be placed over a large surface on both sides (mounting
plate and motor housing).
Symmetrically shielded motor cables are recommended at high
motor power.
For example 2YSLCY-JB.
The protective earth conductor is tripartite and uniformly
arranged between the phase lines.
Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.
Certain cables also allow the shield to be used as protective earth
PE
conductor.
Observe the cable manufacturer's specifications!
The installation of an additional PE conductor is required if the
shield does not meet the requirements of EN 61439-1A.
Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.
A shielded cable without protective earth conductor can be used
PE
depending on the local regulations.
This requires an external installation of the PE conductor.
Compliance with the requirements according to EN 61439-1.
