SECTION 1
GENERAL
The KAP 140
2 Axis
Autopilot provides
the
pilot with
the
following
features:
Vertical
Speed
mode
(VS);
Altitude hold
(AL T);
Wing Level
(ROL)
;
Heading
select (HOG); Approach (APR);
ILS
coupling
to
Localizer
(LOC)
and Glideslope (GS); and backcourse (REV)
modes
of
operation.
The KAP 140
2 Axis Autopilot has an electric trim system which
provides autotrim
during
autopilot operation
and manual electric
trim
(MET)
for
the pilot when the autopilot
is
not
engaged. The
electri
c
trim system
is designed
to
fail
safe
for
any single
infli
ght
trim
malfunction. Trim faults
are visually and aurally annunciated.
A lockout device prevents autopilot or MET engagement
until
the
system
has
successfully passed preflight
self
test.
Automatic
preflight self-test begins with
initial
power application
to the
autopilot.

The
following
conditions
will
cause the
Autopilot to
automatically
disengage:
A.
Power failure.
B.
Internal Flight
Control
System
failure.
