2. Replacement CMOS batteries

The lithium battery is needed for buffering the BIOS CMOS data, the real-time clock, and SRAM
data.
The battery is subject to wear and must be replaced when the battery power ("Bad" status) is
insufficient (see "Changing the battery" on page 528).
