You can browse through this list and select one record
for display on the data entry screen. Once the record is
on the data entry screen, you can process it as de-
scribed in instructions for the module (issue, capture im-
ages only, enter data only, verify or reissue) in use.
If the search locates no matching records, the message
No matching records were found appears. In this
case, press the space bar to clear the message and try
searching for another value.

Searching Multiple Fields

The database search feature also permits you to search
multiple fields for locating all records with a specific com-
bination of values. To locate John Smith's record, enter
SMITH in the last name field and JOHN in the first name
field. Then press F10.
To locate all members of department A33 with Secret
clearances, for example, enter A33 in the department
field and SECRET in the clearance field. Pressing F10
then displays all personnel with both characteristics.

Using Wildcards

You may wish to match only part of a field during a
search. For example, you may want to find the records
of all employees whose last names start with S. To do
this, type S* in the last name field. ("*" is a wildcard
specification meaning "any value.")
Note: Wildcards can be used only at the end of a se-
ries of characters. Acceptable uses of wild-
cards are S* and SM*. Wildcards used as *H
or S*H are not acceptable.

Specifying a Search Range

Searching for a range of values allows you to select re-
cords for a certain section of the alphabet, a certain
range of dates or a range of values for any other field.
For example, you may need to view the records of all
employees hired during the period from 1/1/90 to
1/31/90. Likewise, you may wish to find the records of
employees whose last names begin with the letters A
through K.
