OPERATION

To restore archived presets, system files, and automation files:

backup folder untouched. Later, you will be able to restore from any
folder — the Restore dialog box allows you to choose the folder contain-
ing the files to be restored
If you attempt to back up a preset with the same name as a preset exist-
ing in the Backup folder, but with a different date, 8500S PC Remote will
warn you and will allow you to overwrite the preset in the Backup folder
or to cancel the operation. If you wish to keep the existing archived pre-
set, you can first use a file manager to move the existing user preset in
the Backup folder to another folder and then repeat the backup opera-
tion.
In addition to restoring an archived preset to its original Optimod, you can also copy
archived presets from one Optimod to another. The Optimod whose connection is
active will receive the preset.
If the preset, system file, or automation file was encrypted when it was
originally saved, PC Remote will request the password under which it was
encrypted.
All User Presets are compatible with all 8500S software versions and are compatible
with both 8500S/HD and 8500S/FM. If Orban adds new controls to a software ver-
sion, the new software will assign a reasonable default value to any control missing
in an old User Preset. If you archive such a User Preset after restoring it, the newly
written archive file will now include the new controls (with the default values,
unless you edit any of these values before you re-archive the preset).
If you load an archived 8500S/HD preset file into an 8500S/FM, the 8500S/FM will
ignore all digital radio-specific parameters in the file.
If you load into an 8500S/HD a User Preset that was originally archived from an
8500S/FM, the 8500S will usually apply the digital radio parameters that the User
Preset inherited from its source Factory Preset. The main exception is a User Pre-
set that originally created in an 8500S/HD, was then loaded into and modified by
an 8500S/FM, and was finally loaded into an 8500S/HD again. In this case, any HD
settings in the original 8500S User Preset are retained.
In addition, you can load archived preset files from OPTIMOD-FM 5500, 8400, 8500,
8600, and 8600S. The 8500S supports all features on these processors except for the
MX limiter in 8600 and 8600S, and the stand-alone stereo encoder mode in the
5500. 5500 and 8400 presets will sound very similar on the 8500S. (They will not
sound 100% identical because the base sample rate of the 5500 and 8400 is 32 kHz
and the base sample rate of the 8500S and 8500 is 64 kHz.) 8500 and non-MX 8600
presets will sound identical when running on the 8500S.
