When the percentage of the traffic rate on a link to bandwidth exceeds the defined load
threshold, the system automatically brings up a second link and assigns the two links to an MP
bundle. When the percentage of the traffic rate on these two links to bandwidth exceeds the
defined load threshold, the system brings up a third link, and assigns it to the MP bundle, and
so on. This ensures appropriate traffic distribution on DDR links.
On the contrary, when the percentage of the traffic rate on N links (N is an integer equal to or
greater than 2) to the bandwidth of N – 1 links decreases below the defined load threshold, the
system automatically shuts down a link. This ensures the efficient use of DDR links.
Maximum number of bundled links
To implement MP for DDR, use dialer interfaces. The following describes how MP operates after
you configure the ppp mp and dialer threshold commands on a dialer interface:
When the ratio of traffic rate to bandwidth on a physical interface assigned to the dialer
interface exceeds the configured load threshold, DDR performs the following tasks:
If the physical interfaces are ISDN BRI or PRI interfaces, DDR uses idle B channels on them to
form an MP bundle.
When the number of bundled links reaches the upper threshold specified by the max-bind-num
argument, DDR stops bringing up new links.
Minimum number of bundled links
Some dial applications require multiple links carry services. To meet this requirement, configure
the ppp mp min-bind command to enable DDR to bring up multiple links when triggered to ensure
minimum bandwidth. MP operates in the following workflow:
a.
DDR brings up the first link.
b.
When the first link comes up, DDR checks whether the number of links in the MP bundle
reaches the lower limit specified by the min-bind-num argument. If not, the router brings up the
second link.
This process continues until the number of links in the MP bundle reaches the lower limit.
For more information about MP, see "Configuring PPP and MP."

Configuration restrictions and guidelines

When you configure MP for DDR, follow these restrictions and guidelines:
The dialer threshold, ppp mp max-bind, and ppp mp min-bind commands must be configured in
dialer interface view. When you configure all three commands, the system dials min-bind-num links.
If the traffic exceeds traffic-percentage, the system dials other idle links until the number of bundled
links reaches max-bind-num or the traffic falls below traffic-percentage. The dialed min-bind-num
links are not disconnected due to timeout.
If you set the link load threshold to zero, DDR brings up all available links when triggered by
auto-dial or packets instead of first looking at the traffic size. In addition, it does not tear down
established links based on the timer configured by using dialer timer idle command.
If you do not set a link load threshold but you set min-bind-num, the system uses min-bind-num links
for MP bundling. If you do not set min-bind-num, the system uses one link for MP bundling, and the
max-bind-num you set does not take effect.
Brings up another physical interface in the dialer interface.
Assigns these links to an MP bundle.
