The originalversionof Lotus 1-2-3is perhapsthe mostwidelyused
applications program. It alsopredatesthepopularityof laserprinters.
However,Lotus can readilybe used with dot matrixprinters. This
makesit easyto usewith the StarLaserPrinter8, becauseit emulates
two dot matrixprinters,the EpsonEX-800and the IBM Proprinter.
Lotuscanalsobe usedwiththeStarLaserPrinter8'sDiablo630daisy
wheelprinteremulation:however,it doesnot producegraphics.
Thereare two waysto makeLotuscompatiblewitha printer:
permanently,in a startupconfigurationfile throughthe /Work-
sheetMenu,and
temporarily,throughthePM/Printer Menu.
The more straightforward of the two choicesis to make the choice
permanentand automaticupon startup. Doingthis savesthe printer
setupin thefile123.CNIon theLotussystemdisk. Hereis howto do

At the openingscreenand Menu,selectWorksheetby typing
IV/
In the nextMenu,selectGlobalby typing
G
and then,at the Global M enu,selectDefaultby typing
D
In the Default M enu,type
P
for Printer.Now you are readyto makesomeselectionsaboutthe
configuration of yourStarLaserPrinter8.
