Thefactthatyou'renowreadingthismanualshowsthatyou'vegotten
at leastas far as openingthe cartoncontainingyournew Star Laser-
Printer8. Mostlikely,it'ssittinginthemiddleof thefloor,andyou're
eagertogetitunpacked,setup,andrunning.Thischapterwillhelpyou
dojust that.
First,though,you shouldmakesomepreparations.Youmay already
havedecidedontheprinter'snewlocation.Whetheryouhaveorhave
not,run throughthischecklistof requirements:
environmental c ontrol- The printerand toner cartridgeshould
neverbeexposedto strongsunshineor otherdirecttisources.
It
shouldalsorelocated awayfrom
air conditioningducts, dust, and
fumes.
Excessivemoistureshouldbe avoided,suchas
humidityin
excess
of 8070or lessthan20%. If it is comfortableforyou,then
it willbe comfortablefor yourprinter.
a large,strongtableor stand- The printerweighs45 lbs.(20kg),
and mustbe fmly supported. Also,the printerwill need more
room than it takesup in the shippingcarton,becausethe paper
cartridgewillextendforwardfromthefront,andanauxiliarypaper
tray willunfoldfromtherear; so planfor a spaceat least3 x 4 ft.

at least24 in. of headroomabovethe tablehmd.
a three-pronged outlet- The outletshouldbe no morethan5 feet
(1.5m) fromtheprinter(thelengthof thepowercord),preferably
