9.
If the thermocouple needs to be replaced, slide it out of the mounting slot
and install the new thermocouple at this time.
10.
Inspect the wiper pad.
At a minimum, clean debris from the wiper pad.
If the pad contains flashing debris (laminate materials), then the wiper
should be replaced.
11.
Unless the heating element is being replaced, inspect it for damage. Some
discoloration is expected.
Normal Appearance:
The adhesive between the glass tube and ceramic caps will turn a
caramelized brown.
The glass tube and heating element will darken slightly.
This is not a high intensity light bulb, so fingerprints will not damage the
glass. However, if the glass is dirty, it should be wiped down before
replacement.
Abnormal Appearance:
If part of the glass tube is greatly discolored, this may indicate uneven
heating. The heater may function just fine, but if this results in uneven
lamination on the cards, then the heater should be replaced.
Cracks in the glass tube. (In an emergency, a minor crack will not prevent the
heater from operating, but the heater should be replaced as soon as possible.)
