1. REMOVE AND
INSTALL OUTER TIE ROD
REMOVE INSTALL
1. Loosen j a m nut.

Install parts as s h o w n .
2. Remove tie rod f r o m

Do not tighten j a m nut.

Make toe-in adjustment
using Tool J - 6 6 2 7 A . by t u r n i n g inner tie rod.
3. Remove outer tie rod.
4. Be sure boot is not

Remove j a m nut.

TIE ROD END CLAMP
To
prevent boot
damage, slide tie
rod end of boot toward %
center of gear enough to
expose boot groove on the
tie rod. Place a rubber band in
groove. This fills the groove and allows
removal of boot from gear without damage.
Remove rubber
band.
Slide boot on tie
rod until boot
snaps into groove.-

REMOVE
Remove parts as shown.
Use wrench on rack
when either left or
right hand tie rods are
removed.
RACK
INSTALL
1. Install parts as shown.
2. Torque housing. (Use wrench
on rack when tightening right
or left tie rod to avoid
internal gear damage.)
3. Slide shock dampener
on housing until it
engages.
• Use wrench on rack
teeth to avoid internal
gear damage.
