Chapter 6. Removing and replacing components
Replaceable components are of three types:
v Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your
v Tier 2 customer replaceable unit (CRU): You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself
v Field replaceable unit (FRU): FRUs must be installed only by Trained service

to determine whether a component is a Tier 1 CRU, Tier 2 CRU, or FRU that must
be replaced only by a trained service technician.

Returning a device or component
If you are instructed to return a device or component, follow all packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to
you.

This section provides information for removing and replacing components in the
server.
Removing and replacing consumable parts
Replacement of consumable parts is your responsibility. If IBM installs a
consumable part at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
