BACKLASH MEASUREMENT (FT9.9D)
8 Attach the backlash indicator 1 onto
the drive shaft (12.8 mm in diameter)
as shown.
Backlash indicator:
90890-06706
8 Attach the dial gauge onto the lower
unit and have the dial gauge plunger
contact the mark on the backlash
indicator.
Base plate:
90890-07003
Dial gauge set:
90890-01252
Magneto base:
90890-06705
8 Slowly turn the drive shaft clockwise
and counterclockwise. When the
drive shaft stops in each direction,
measure the backlash.
2. Adjust:
9 Forward gear backlash
Remove or add shim(s).
NOTE:
Adjust the shim(s) to be added or removed
according to specification.
Forward gear
backlash
Less than
0.20 mm (0.008 in)
More than
1.15 mm (0.045 in)
Available shim thickness:
0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 mm
Reverse gear
1. Measure:
9 Reverse gear backlash
Out of specification → Adjust.
Reverse gear backlash:
0.66 ~ 1.56 mm (0.026 ~ 0.061 in)
