Basic software procedures
Prior to the firmware update the image file to be used is checked.
● The image file is verified to prevent an unauthorized image from being used.
● It is checked if the image file has been tampered with.
If the result of the check shows that the image file is not the original one any
longer you can configure an automatic recovery of the image file by using a
golden image. This golden image is used for recovery and overwrites the
tampered firmware image.
During the recovery process of the iRMC S6 firmware image do not power-
off/on the server. The Power-on LED blinks white during firmware recovery.
The detection of a tampered firmware image and its recovery are logged to the
system event log (SEL). The iRMC S6 settings of the firmware remain.
There are two ways to update the golden image:
● Update the active image and update the golden image implicitly with the
same version.
● Update the golden image individually to the same version as the active
image.
You can update the golden image using the iRMC S6 web interface or the
Redfish API of the iRMC S6.
After the update of the golden image the iRMC S6 needs to be rebooted.
Updating the golden image using the iRMC S6 web interface
▶ Log in to the iRMC S6 web interface.
▶ Select the Tools menu.
▶ Open the Update page.
▶ In the iRMC Update group, set the Update Source to Image file.
▶ Set the Image to Flash to the desired image.
▶ Click Golden Image Update to Perform.
▶ Click Reboot iRMC.
For more information on iRMC settings, see the iRMC user guides.
