2. Plug the RJ-45-to-DB-9 serial port adapter into the serial port on your personal computer

3. Turn on the power to the personal computer. Start Microsoft Windows Hyperterminal or
another asynchronous terminal emulation application. Select the appropriate COM port to
use, such as COM1.
4. Configure the port settings as follows:
Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: none
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: none

Logging in to the Juniper Series Router

1. At the login prompt, type root and press Enter.
2. At the password prompt, perform one of the following:
a. Press Enter. No password is usually required at the first login.
b. Enter a password. The password might already be set if a staging process is used before
the installation. In this case, your project manager must give you this password.
You are now logged in at the UNIX command line (%).

If a password is not already set, you must set a new password before you commit

If you need to reset the password, go to password recovery procedure at
http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/jseries/junos83/jseries83-admin-guide/
user-auth-recover-root-pwd-section.html.
You can also reset the password by pressing the reset configuration button for
twelve seconds. However, this method also overwrites any configuration data you
may have entered with default configuration data.
