Upgrading/Downloading
Software/Firmware
To obtain upgrade software for the Avaya
may do one of the following:
• Upload the software from a CD on-site
• Download the software directly onto your services computer before going on-site
If you are upgrading a G700 Media Gateway (without S8300 or LSP), you must use an external TFTP
server. If you are upgrading a G700 Media Gateway and either an S8300 or LSP, then you will upgrade the
server first, and then user the S8300/LSP server for TFTP services. The upgraded software files have the .gz
extension. The release letter for the upgrade, which should be either shipped with the G700 or available
from your Project Manager, will tell you what exact files you need to upgrade.
You will first transfer the files to the external TFTP server or the S8300 Media Server. You will then install
the software on the S8300. Before you make the upgrade permanent, you should test for dial tone and make
phone calls. When you are confident that the installation was without error, you will make the upgrade
permanent. Then you will need to upgrade the G700.

Setting Up the External TFTP Server (If Necessary)

For G700 Media Gateway software upgrades, the customer may need to configure an external TFTP server
for software downloads. For S8300 media server software upgrades, the customer may want to configure an
external TFTP server to conserve space on the S8300. In either case, follow the procedures that follow to set
up the external TFTP server.
Note:
A Linux or Unix TFTP server should be used only if the customer already has an
existing one. In these cases, you will download the tar.gz file to your laptop and
give it to the customer for proper placement and execution.
