read with up to 32 bytes of ASCII characters

(up to 31 ASCII characters plus the end code
(00 hex)).
If there are fewer than 31 characters, the
remaining bytes are filled with 00 hex.
The response data is expressed by ASCII
characters 20 hex (space) to 7E hex (").
