Avaya CLI - EZ2route

Increasing/decreasing the routers timeout.
The P333R in EZ2route mode has a default timeout of 15 minutes on routers.
This means that the EZ2route has to relearn routers in the network every 15
minutes or it will stop performing 3rd layer switching for stations using those
routers. This also means that in case the real router stop operating, stations
connected to the P333R will continue to communicate with each other for the
same period. Increasing the timeout, allows stations that uses routing in the
stack to communicate longer when the main router fails. However, increasing
the timeout interval, may cause the P333R in EZ2route mode to detect changes
in the network slowly.
Note: Note that although the P333R in EZ2route mode takes some responsibilities
from the real router, and may continue performing routing for some time even
when the real router stops operating, the network cannot work without the real
router for a long time. The reason is that stations ask their default router from time-
to-time about its MAC address, using ARP requests. The EZ2route does not send
ARP replies on behalf of the real router and thus the station will not send any
packets.
6
Increasing/Decreasing the host timeout.
EZ2route learns the IP-MAC pairs of the stations on the network from the
ARPs. This learning is subject to aging. The P333R in EZ2route mode has a
default timeout of 4 hours on hosts. Increasing timeout allows stations that
output few ARP requests to communicate longer,

Performance Issues

1
Location of Uplink
For best performance you should connect the uplink of the stack to the P333R in
EZ2route mode. If more than one such devices exist, they can be used to backup
each other, by connecting both of them to the backbone and using the port
redundancy feature.
2
Multiple P333R in EZ2route mode
When multiple P333R modules in EZ2route mode are installed in the same
stack, the best performance is achieved when the P333R modules in EZ2route
mode are spread evenly in the stack. For example, in a stack with two P333R
modules in EZ2route mode and four other modules it is recommended to place
the P333Rs as modules 1 and 4.
