Applying the parking brake automatical-
ly
Your vehicle's parking brake is applied au-
tomatically if HOLD ( page 288) or Dis-
tronic Plus* ( page 280) brings your
vehicle to a halt and at least one of the fol-
lowing conditions is fulfilled:
The engine is switched off.
The driver's door is opened and the
seat belt is not inserted in the buckle.
The bonnet is released.
The boot lid is opened while the trans-
mission is in position R.
The vehicle is stationary for a long peri-
od.
The red ! indicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster comes on.
Emergency braking with the parking
brake
In an emergency, you can also brake your
vehicle while it is in motion using the park-
ing brake.
Press the switch for the parking brake
while the vehicle is in motion
( page 254).

Your vehicle will be braked for as long as you
keep the parking brake switch pressed. The long-
er you press the parking brake, the more firmly
the vehicle will be braked.
The red ! indicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster flashes during the braking
procedure, the "Release parking brake"
message appears in the driver's display
and you will hear a warning tone.
If you have brought your vehicle to a com-
plete halt, the parking brake is then ap-
plied.
Stopping the engine
Move the transmission selector lever
to P.
With the key
Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition
lock ( page 225) and remove it.
The immobiliser is activated.

Driving and parking
With KEYLESS GO*
Press the KEYLESS GO button next to
the steering column.
The engine is switched off and all the
lights in the instrument cluster go out.
The status of the on-board electronics
corresponds to key position 1
( page 225).

If you wish to stop the engine while the vehi-
cle is in motion, you must press the KEYLESS GO
button and hold it for approximately three sec-
onds.

If you have switched off the engine using the
KEYLESS GO button and have opened a door, the
transmission automatically switches to P. If you
drive the vehicle through a car wash with towing
equipment, you can switch on the ignition using
the KEYLESS GO button and shift the transmis-
sion to N or insert the key into the ignition lock.
