Replacement
Note
• The factory-installed battery in the MX-5 Miata can-
not be purchased over the counter. When replac-
ing the battery, replace it with a Mazda genuine
battery (with vent manifold) or equivalent and use
a Mazda genuine battery replacement kit (battery
tray, battery clamp, and clamp bolt; Part number
NAV1 56 020A) or equivalent.

Battery replacement using the Mazda genuine battery replace-
ment kit is as follows.
1. Remove the battery cover.
Warning
• The negative battery cable must be removed first
and installed last.
2. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery.
3. Remove the battery clamp.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Disconnect the battery vent hoses.
6. Remove the battery tray.
7. Remove the battery bracket.
8. Reverse the battery clamp bracket as shown.
9. Change the position of the battery bracket

shown.
Warning
• Install the battery vent hoses correctly to reduce the
possibility of injury or fire.
10. Install the new battery using the battery replacment kit (Part
number NA Y1 56 020A).
