(3) Compress rear cable retainer with hose clamp
or pliers and pull cable out of support plate (Fig. 5).

(4) Remove one (or both) cables as needed from re­
action bracket on right rear fame rail (Fig. 6).
(5) Disengage rear cable from tensioner (Fig. 7).
(6) Remove cable from bracket on frame (Fig. 7).
Compress cable retainer with hose clamp or pliers
and slide cable out of bracket.
(7) Remove cable.
(8) Route new cable to rear brake support plate.
(9) Insert cable through support plate, seat cable
retainers and attach cable to parking brake lever on
secondary brakeshoe.
(10) Install brakeshoes but do not install brake
drum at this time.
10-16 Nm
(90-140 in. lbs.)

(11) Seat cable in body clips, reaction bracket, and
frame bracket.
(12) Connect cable to tensioner.
(13) Adjust cable tensioner, Refer to procedure in
this section.
(14) Install wheel and tire assemblies.
(15) Lower vehicle.
(16) Verify parking brake operation.
PARKING BRAKE CABLE TENSIONER ADJUSTMENT
Tensioner adjustment is only necessary when
the tensioner, or a cable has been replaced or
disconnected for service. When adjustment is
necessary, perform adjustment only as de­
scribed in the following procedure. This is nec­
essary to avoid faulty parking brake operation.
