Expansion modules — RAID set characteristics:
• The first two drives in each Expansion module (Drive 1 and Drive 2)
are the global hot spares for that enclosure.
• The remaining hard drives in each Expansion module are configured
into two RAID sets:
• First RAID set — Drives 3 through 9 are configured into RAID 6
(5+2)
• Second RAID set — Drives 10 through 16 are configured into
RAID 6 (5+2)

Each Expansion module (EBOD) contains 12 SATA hard drives (3TB each)
and provides a usable capacity of 30TB. From 1 to 10 Expansion
modules can be added to the base expansion rack. Every Expansion
module supports RAID 6 (see

• All twelve drives in each Expansion module (Drives 1 through 12) are
configured into a single RAID 6 set (10+2).
