Sets (1TB and 2TB Hard Drives)
Quantum DXi8500 User's Guide
Each Array module (RAID) contains 16 SATA hard drives and provides a
usable capacity of 10TB (with 1TB drives) or 20TB (with 2TB drives). Up
to nine Array modules can be added in the base rack. A tenth Array
module can be added in an expansion rack. For DXi8500 systems with
1TB drives, from 1 to 10 Expansion modules can be added to an
expansion rack. For DXi8500 systems using 2TB drives, no Expansion
modules are used.
Every module supports RAID 6 with two hot spares per tray (see
Figure
10).
Array modules — RAID set characteristics:
• The first two drives in each Array module (Drive 1 and Drive 2) are
the global hot spares for that enclosure.
• The remaining hard drives in each Array module are configured into
two RAID sets:
• First RAID set — Drives 3 through 9 are configured into RAID 6
(5+2)
• Second RAID set — Drives 10 through 16 are configured into
RAID 6 (5+2)
