Intermec EasyCoder 501 XP – Service Manual Ed. 4
The liner/batch takeup unit is fi tted to the printer's center section
by means of a fl ange with two ball bearing. On the inner side, there
is a pulley, which only can rotate in one direction due to an internal
clutch. The wheel is held by means of a snap ring.
On the outer side, the hub and its attached gable are fi tted. The rota-
tion is braked by means of a friction felt pad and a pressure spring.
Thereby, it is possible to take up liner or media manually without
running the motor. The friction brake also takes up sudden jerks.
A plate helps to hold possible takeup cores. The assembly is held
together by a #T20 Torx screw at the end of the shaft.
If the takeup unit does not have enough strength to take up the
media or to peel off the labels, it may depend on the friction felt
having got dried out. Dismantle the unit and soak the felt pad in
fresh motor oil. Remove excessive oil with a piece of tissue and
reassemble the unit.
The unwind torque should be 270 to 300 Nmm and the brake
torque 15 to 45 Nmm
