17.14 Liner/Batch
Takeup Troubles
Intermec EasyCoder 501 XP – Service Manual Ed. 4
Description:
The internal liner/batch takeup unit does not work properly.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Bad liner takeup or bad peel-off (self-strip) operation.
- Check that the media is routed correctly as described in the
Installation & Operation manual.
- Check the setup for incorrect media type and feed adjust set-
tings.
• Takeup unit slips.
- Check if the friction felt pad inside the takeup unit has become
dried out, see Chapter 9.3.
• Either the liner drive roller in the print unit or the takeup hub
does not rotate, while the other does.
- Check if any of the two belts from the takeup stepper motor is
broken, is slack, or has come off the pulleys, see Chapter 9.2.
• Stepper motor does not run.
- Check if the stepper motor of the print unit runs. If neither
runs, there is some error in the CPU board or power supply.
Check as for "Media feed does not work" in Chapter 17.11.
- If neither the takeup hub nor the liner drive roller rotate at
all but the media feed stepper motor is OK, the takeup unit
stepper motor could be incorrectly connected (P421), or its
drive circuits, IC424 and IC425 on the CPU board could be
damaged. Check that all pins in the connector of the stepper
motor's cable are fully inserted.
- Check if the problem is in the stepper motor by switching the
cables connected to P420 and P421 on the CPU board. If the
print unit stepper motor works when connected to P421, the
problem is in the stepper motor itself–not in the CPU board.
• Power supply malfunction.
- Check the voltage on test point V40 on the CPU board, see
Chapter 15.5. If V40 is not +42V ± 10%, the power supply
unit is probably faulty.
• Bad internal rewind of printed labels.
- Check that the batch takeup guide plate is fi tted correctly, see
Chapter 9.1.
- Check that the media is routed correctly as shown in Chapter
9.1.
