Removing the System Board Cooling Fans

Figure 2-47. J Class System Board Cooling Fans
1. Locate the faulty system board fan. The faulty fan was indicated by a message on the
front panel display. The message was in the form "Fan #n Failure!", where "n" is either
2, 3, or 4. If "n" is not 2, 3, or 4, the faulty fan is not on the system board, and a different
replacement procedure is required.
2. Facing the system board, disconnect the appropriate fan cable from the right side of the
system board. (Press down on connector tab and pull.)
3. Each fan is fastened to the fan wall by four plastic rivets. Using the flat part of a
screwdriver, press against the pointed end of the rivet and push the rivet completely
out, toward the back of the workstation. (If the shaft was pushed far into the rivet
sleeve, you may need to pry at the head end to remove the rivet.)
4. Remove the fan by pushing it out toward the front of the workstation.

NOTE
When replacing the fan, use the new rivets that come with your kit. The old
rivets should be discarded.
