Note: For proper airflow, the hard drive carrier must be replaced in the server system, even if no
hard drive is installed in it.
8. When the black lever begins to close by itself, push on it to lock the drive carrier
into place.

Installing or Removing a Slimline Optical Drive

Caution: The optical drive is NOT hot swappable. Before removing or replacing the optical drive,
you must first take the server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to
the system, turn off the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the AC power
cord from the system or wall outlet.

The hardware necessary to install your optical drive was shipped to you in a bag
labeled "CD-ROM Assy".
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See
Information" on page
2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable.
3. Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see
System Cover" on page
4. Remove the bezel if it is installed. For instructions, see
Bezel" on page
5. Note the orientation of the PCI cooling fan that is located behind the optical drive
bay, then lift the fan from the mounting pegs. It is not necessary to disconnect the
fan cable. See letter "A" in

for instructions first. Return to these steps when directed.
