Scan a document and edit it in a word processor
Scan a spreadsheet and edit it in a spreadsheet application

Rather than scan documents to XIF files, it can also be very
useful to scan documents directly into a word processor
application, such as MS Word or WordPerfect. You can then edit
the documents, and save them on your PC, or store backup copies
on a floppy disk or other removable media.
