Thumbnail—A miniature view of a document that appears, like
a file icon, in a Windows folder. In Pagis Pro, the Pagis Inbox and
Pagis Folders support a large thumbnail view that helps you
easily identify the contents of documents.
TIFF image—A representation of one or more pages or graphics
stored in Tag Image File Format, an industry-standard image
format.
TWAIN—An image and scanner interface standard, complete
with an API, for the development of interfaces to imaging devices
(scanners, fax machines, and so on). Pagis Pro supports any fully
TWAIN-compliant scanner, multiple-function device, or digital
camera.
TWAIN Interface—Also referred to as the TWAIN dialog box,
this is the software-based control center for a scanner. Scanner
manufacturers provide this software with their scanners. The
software enables the scanners to run with other programs, and
also provides menus, buttons, and options to control the scanner.
V
virtual memory—Space on your hard disk that Windows uses as
if it were actually random access memory (RAM). When Windows
needs more RAM for an operation, it temporarily swaps out what
is currently in RAM to your hard disk. This is how Windows can
run multiple programs at the same time. To avoid memory
problems in Windows, you need to make sure that you have
plenty of free space on your hard drive at all times.
volume label—A name that you assign to a Jaz™ cartridge,
Zip™ cartridge, floppy disk, or other storage media.
W
wild-card operators—In database searches, a character that
serves as a substitute for one or some of the actual characters in
the words you are searching for. Common wild-card operators are
the asterisk (*) and the question mark (?).
